We are seeking a Laboratory Support Technologist to support research and development efforts related to Materials Reliability. The MR analytical laboratories employ a suite of gas, liquid, and solid materials characterization tools (ICP/MS, ICP/OES, LECO, GC, GC/MS, LC/PDA, UPLC/MS, IC, GPC, LIBS) for solving problems and building a fundamental understanding of materials interactions and effects. This role offers a rare opportunity to address a large variety of problems faced by the Nuclear Deterrence (ND) complex and to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment and to plan and execute critical analyses to solve materials forensics challenges and identify future research opportunities.
Communicate effectively with customers, determining their analytical measurement needs, crafting protocols, collecting data, and reporting to customers
Learn about customer processes and products to select appropriate analytical tools or direct them to other resources
Prepare samples for analysis
Operate and calibrate various instrumentation to include QA/QC activities
Build methodologies or tools for measuring gas, liquid, or solid compositions and their impurities
Further the knowledge of materials aging, decomposition, or interaction with other materials
Maintain detailed records
Record, manipulate and interpret data
Perform all duties in compliance with operational safety, security, and quality guidelines
Requirements
You have completed a bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or a related discipline
Your laboratory experience includes acid digestion, microwave techniques, and analysis methods for elemental measurements using ICP/MS and ICP/OES
You are able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance
